Fun Translations yi kai yai yai banana! Post navigation ← Older posts Pig Latin: Fact or Fiction? Posted by Veronica Harrison Pig Latin is not a real language. It is made up dialect used usually to be playful or secretive about something. It comes from an alteration of English words by adding a false suffix or by moving the onset or initial consonant cluster of a word to the end of the word and adding a vocalic syllable to create this suffix. It’s all in fun. And although talking Pig Latin is a good time, it could also serve as the key language in times of expressing secrets. Like a set of siblings with their own code to keep secrets from their parents. Or coworkers in the office. A set of siblings can use Pig Latin for fun and to communicate secrets to one another around parents. A coworker could create an exclusive way to communicate with other coworkers in Pig Latin when the boss is present. Some people begin to treat it like an actual language, an exclusive and members only type of way to communicate. It is, indeed. However, Pig Latin shouldn’t be confused as an actual language. It is not. If anything, Pig Latin is sort of like fun slang. It isn’t to be compared to actual English or Latin where words are particularly constructed for meaning. So, the game of Pig Latin allows you to be more creative with language. Posted in Pig Latin Oct · 19 Become a professional translator Posted by Veronica Harrison A professional translator is one who serves as one who helps bridge groups together despite different languages and cultural backgrounds. A translator literally translates one language to another to help those who are not bilingual understand their non-native speaking language. To become a translator, a person must be fluent in at least two languages. It takes a lot of skill to pursue a career as a professional translator. The professional translator has to be very intellectual and great at overall communication. In 2017, the global language industry revenue was at $43.08 billion and is predicted to increase by 2021. So, in just a few years, it is predicted that the language industry will reach nearly $48 billion. The potential for being a professional translator is high at this very moment. Besides the great pay, it is a rewarding job that allows for a career that helps people. You must have the right education to become a translator. In order to do this, a person needs fluency in the source of language or the one in which he/she is translating from. It’s also very important that someone can write the target language, as well. Acquire an education in the field and practice translations consistently. Practicing and constantly learning the languages are both major keys. The more fluent, the better. Creating time to speak the language and read the language creates opportunities for improvement. If someone decides to focus on one subject, he/she should become a master of that subject. Studying the language is now not the only priority; the other priority is studying the actual subject. This can be a challenge, but to create time to learn the subject only strengthens the language. The rewards of being someone that helps bridge cultural gaps is important. To be a person who helps others communicate and comprehend, despite cultural backgrounds, is a major need across the world. It’s a high demand job, pays well, and bands together cultures from across the world. The Babylonian Empire was the most powerful state in the ancient world after the fall of the Assyrian empire (612 BCE). Its capital Babylon was beautifully adorned by king Nebuchadnezzar, who erected several famous buildings. Even after the Babylonian Empire had been overthrown by the Persian king Cyrus the Great (539), the city itself remained an important cultural center. That’s then anyway. We felt nostalgic and added a translator to translate English alphabets to Babylonian Cuneiform alphabets. Checkout our Babylonian Translator and have fun! If you are a math kind and interested in checking out Babylonian number systems, try this Babylonian numbers converter .
